This morning, a 22 year old Israel-Arab terrorist from a village near Haifa rammed into a soldier at a bus stop on a main highway in the north. He then got out of his vehicle, stabbed the soldier, stole his rifle and began shooting at passing vehicles. A 75 year old man in a car was killed and his son lightly wounded. A unit of Border Police officers, who happened to have been driving by, shot and killed the terrorist. Overnight, security forces arrested 18 terror suspects in raids in the West Bank.

Over the weekend, the IDF eliminated at least 4 senior Hamas leaders in Gaza, including the group’s new prime minister, who was operating inside a hospital in Khan Younis, and its politburo, who was killed in his tent in the humanitarian zone of al-Mawasi, near Khan Younis. Additional IDF forces are moving into Gaza.

Egypt has reportedly put forward a new proposal under which Hamas would release five living hostages, including American-Israeli IDF soldier Edan Alexander, in exchange for a week-long pause in fighting, the entry of humanitarian aid, and the release of hundreds of Palestinian prisoners held by Israel. Hamas has reportedly responded favorably to the proposal. Qatari newspaper The New Arab reported that the proposal would require Hamas to provide detailed information on all hostages (living, deceased or wounded), including photographic evidence.

The Security Cabinet approved Defense Minister Israel Katz’s proposal to establish an administration within the Defense Ministry to coordinate government ministries’ preparations to facilitate the “voluntary departure” of Gazans to third countries. Security officials claimed that recent surveys conducted among Gaza residents indicate that approximately 50% wish to leave. About 90% of Gaza’s academically educated population reportedly expressed a desire to emigrate if given the opportunity. According to a report in the Qatari media, the White House has reportedly told Egypt that it must accept 500k-700k Palestinians from Gaza or face losing U.S. aid.

In a unanimous vote last night, the cabinet voted to fire Attorney General Gali Baharav-Miara, claiming that she was working against the government. The AG did not attend the cabinet meeting and presented the cabinet with a letter outlining her defense.
