News Update
Israel struck 2 buildings in the upscale Al Mazzeh quarter, west of Damascus today. The strike took place during a visit of a senior advisor to Iran’s supreme leader Ali Khamenei who is, according to Lebanese media reports, visiting the area on “a special mission.” Reports from opposition groups claim that 3 people were killed and 9 injured. News of the attack came shortly after Israel struck Hezbollah targets near Beirut’s international airport, while a plane was on the runway preparing for takeoff. Israel also continues to strike transport routes along the Syria-Lebanon border used to transfer weapons to Hezbollah.
Progress is reportedly being made towards reaching a ceasefire agreement in Lebanon, but the Lebanese government, in conjunction with Hezbollah, appears to be trying to play hardball. For more, click here.
The IDF announced that 6 soldiers serving in the Golani brigade were killed in a battle in southern Lebanon yesterday: Captain Itay Marcovich, 22, from Kokhav Ya’ir; Staff Sergeant Sraya Elbom, 21, from Mehola; Staff Sergeant Dror Hen, 20, from Gan Haim; Staff Sergeant Nir Gofer, 20, from Dimona; Sergeant Shalev Itzhak Sagron, 21, from Sderot; and Sergeant Yoav Daniel, 19, from Nahariya.
