News Update

Israel held its official state Memorial Day ceremony this morning on Mount Herzl in Jerusalem, honoring the nation’s fallen soldiers and victims of terror. The ceremony began at 11 a.m., with a two-minute nationwide siren. Prime Minister Netanyahu addressed the event saying, “This generation understands all too well what is at stake. Our sons and daughters are determined to hold the perpetrators of the massacre and atrocities to account—and even at this very moment, are doing everything possible to bring our hostages home. This is the light of victory that will shine from the battlefield—the light of sacrifice and spirit. The light of victory carried by the fallen heroes of Israel who gave their lives for our people. Their memory will forever be engraved in our hearts.” Memorial services are being held throughout the country.

Dry conditions and high winds have caused massive forest fires in the hills of Jerusalem, prompting evacuations of residents from area communities and the closing of major highways. Fire and Rescue teams evacuated drivers on Highway 1, the main road connecting the coast to Jerusalem, as flames and smoke spread from the nearby woodlands. Other drivers abandoned their cars and fled on foot to escape the flames.

National Security Minister Itamar Ben-Gvir said he has enlisted the help of the military in evacuating people from danger. Israel has also appealed for urgent assistance from Greece, Cyprus, Croatia, Bulgaria and Italy after the Fire and Rescue Authorities said they would be unable to respond to the crisis.

Due to the weather changes and strong winds, the Defense Ministry has asked the public to avoid visiting cemeteries across the country for fear of Remembrance Day poles and structures falling.

The Druze spiritual leader in Israel, Sheikh Mowafaq Tarif, called on Israel to protect the Druze community in Syria, after dozens of Druze were killed in clashes with Syrian security forces. Druze demonstrations erupted in various locations in northern Israel causing major traffic jams and blocking access to nearby military cemeteries for the Memorial Day ceremonies.

According to figures published yesterday by the Central Bureau of Statistics, Israel’s population is 10,094,000, of who 7,732,000 (77.6%) are Jewish or classified as other, 2,114,000 (20.9%) Arab and 248,000 (2.5%) foreign workers. For more, click here.

News Update

Yesterday the IAF struck a Hezbollah infrastructure site in the Dahieh area of Beirut, which was used to store precision missiles. Residents of the area were warned ahead of the attack to evacuate.

Recent airstrikes in Gaza have eliminated 3 senior terrorists including the Hamas Nukhba force commander of the infiltration at Kissufim during the October 7, 2023 attack.

Israel rejected a Hamas proposal for a 5 year ceasefire in exchange for the release of all of the hostages. Official do not see a viable path towards a negotiated deal. A defense official said that Israel is preparing to expand its military operation in Gaza and significantly increase its call-up of reservists.

Shin Bet Director Ronen Bar announced that he will resign on June 15, taking personal responsibility for the agency’s failure to foresee and prevent the October 7 Hamas attack. Prime Minister Netanyahu had tried to remove him from office, sparking legal challenges and widespread public debate.

The Be’er Sheva District Court sentenced 72-year-old Moti Maman from Ashkelon to 10 years in prison on Tuesday after he admitted to contacting a foreign agent and illegally entering an enemy state. Maman traveled to Iran, where he met with Iranian intelligence agents who allegedly sought to recruit him to carry out attacks against Israel.For more, click here.

Tonight begins Yom Hazikaron, the day of remembrance for the soldiers, police and members of the security services who fell defending Israel as well as for the victims of terror. It is followed on Wednesday night by Yom Ha’atzmaut, Israel’s 77th Independence Day. The number 77 spelled out in Hebrew spells “Strength”. May this be a year of physical and spiritual strength for Israel and the entire Jewish nation.

News Update

Master Sergeant (res.) Asaf Kafri, 26, from Beit Hashmonai, was killed Thursday in combat in northern Gaza. Kafri served as a tank driver in the 79th Battalion of the 14th Armored Brigade. Three other soldiers were wounded in the incident, 2 seriously. The incident took place Thursday at 1:45 p.m., when a terrorist cell from Beit Hanoun fired an anti-tank missile and sniper rounds at an IDF unit near Outpost 39, close to Outpost 40, where Warrant Officer G’haleb Sliman Alnasasra was killed last Saturday.

Earlier today, the IDF struck a terror target in a tent complex in Khan Yunis. Several terrorists were reportedly eliminated.

Security forces arrested Islam Qara’an, the head of a terror cell operating out of the Balata refugee camp in Nablus, along with another terrorist in their hideout. In another operation, a suspected Islamic Jihad terrorist was arrested, preventing what authorities said was a planned terrorist attack.

After nearly 24 hours of battling the flames and evacuating residents, firefighting forces finally gained full control yesterday over the massive wildfire that broke out in the Jerusalem Hills and threatened several communities. Large areas of forest were burned. Authorities are investigating the cause of the fire.

Meanwhile, the U.S. continues negotiations with Iran and is reportedly willing to allow Iran to have a civilian nuclear program under strict guidelines and oversight, including being prohibited to enrich uranium. President Trump has said that if Iran doesn’t accept a deal, he is prepared to shut down Irans nuclear program militarily, or to let Israel do it, with U.S. support.

News Update

Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump spoke by phone yesterday. President Trump posted: “I’ve just spoken to Prime Minister of Israel, Bibi Netanyahu, relative to numerous subjects including Trade, Iran, etc. The call went very well—We are on the same side of every issue.”

Palestinian Authority President Mahmoud Abbas called on Hamas to hand over all of the Israeli hostages held in Gaza and accused them of giving Israel an excuse to destroy the Strip. He said, “There are hundreds killed every day. Why? They don’t want to release the American hostages. Sons of dogs, give the hostages back and end it.”  He rejected any proposal to displace Palestinians for Gaza and said, “Hamas must remove itself from the rule of Gaza and hand over its weapons to the Palestinian Authority.”

IDF and Border Police discovered a large cache of weapons inside a women’s clothing store in Hebron. Troops arrested the weapons trafficker.

President Herzog will lead the March of the Living march in Poland on Thursday, despite antisemitic threats against him. He will be accompanied by an official delegation and a group of former hostages. The Shin Bet is taking the threats against the president seriously and has reinforced security around him and his entourage.

Jordan has outlawed the Muslim Brotherhood, the country’s most vocal opposition group, and confiscated its assets after members of the group were found to be linked to a sabotage plot.

News Update

A senior commander of a Sunni terror group, Hussein Atawi, was killed in an Israeli airstrike as he was driving from his home to his office in Beirut. He had survived an earlier attempt on his life last January in southern Lebanon. The IDF said in a statement that Atawi had been involved in planning terror attacks on Israel from Lebanon, targeting troops along the border and that he had been responsible for rocket fire and attempted infiltrations across the border, as well as the planning of attacks against Israeli targets around the world.

The IDF is reportedly preparing for a prolonged campaign in Rafah, due to a lack of significant reinforcements and the expected increase in clashes with remaining Hamas forces in the city. Three brigades — Golani, Givati and the 188th Armored Brigade — are advancing cautiously through Rafah’s southern neighborhoods. Most of the Hamas terrorists from the Rafah brigade are believed to have fled to northern Gaza.

Despite ongoing operations in Rafah, the IDF acknowledges that its focus is shifting northward to what officials describe as the most formidable challenge yet: the densely populated humanitarian zones in Al-Mawasi, along the coast between Rafah and Khan Yuni. The IDF has not yet entered the area, which is believed to harbor thousands of Hamas and Palestinian Islamic Jihad terrorists and their commanders.

A new round of negotiations is due to restart in Doha in the coming days. According to a BBC report on Monday, a new proposal by Qatari and Egyptian mediators calls for a 5 to 7-year truce, the release of all of the Israeli hostages held by Hamas in exchange for Palestinian prisoners held in Israeli jails, an end to the war and a complete withdrawal of IDF troops from the Strip. A Saudi report said that Hamas is willing to hand over governance of Gaza to any Palestinian entity agreed upon “at the national and regional level”.

News Update

The Passover holiday has ended, and our total redemption has unfortunately not yet come to fruition. Not much has changed, at least not that we can see.

Warrant Officer G’haleb Sliman Alnasasra, 35, an IDF tracker from Rahat, was killed in an exchange of fire near the security buffer zone along the Gaza border. He is the first soldier to be killed after the collapse of the ceasefire. According to a preliminary IDF investigation, Hamas terrorists are believed to have emerged from an undiscovered tunnel shaft and opened fire with an anti-tank rocket-propelled grenade (RPG), hitting a military vehicle carrying soldiers. The terrorists then detonated an improvised explosive device, killing Alnasasra and wounding three others.

According to a Saudi media report, Hamas has launched a massive recruiting campaign to recruit 30,000 new terrorists. The report said the move is part of a new military strategy relying on guerrilla tactics, as most of the new recruits lack training in conventional combat. Fighting continues in Gaza, as IDF forces strike terrorists, tunnels and weapons depots and terrorists mount guerrilla attacks. According to a WSJ article, Hamas is severely short on cash, and cannot pay their terrorists.

In a statement on Saturday, Prime Minister Netanyahu said Hamas rejected Israel’s proposal to release hostages in exchange for a temporary truce. He said, “If we surrender to Hamas’ dictates now, all the significant achievements we’ve made thanks to our soldiers, our fallen and our wounded, will be lost.”

Israeli prosecutors are preparing indictments against Hamas terrorists held by Israel who participated in the Oct. 7 massacre. Israel is holding 300 of these terrorists, who will not be included in any hostage release deal. The indictments are based on evidence gathered in Gaza and handed over to Israeli and U.S. law enforcement. For more, click here.

In southern Lebanon, an Israeli drone strike killed a senior Hezbollah commander and other strikes destroyed launchers and other terror targets. In Gaza, the IDF and Shin Bet eliminated Islamic Jihad terrorist Ahmad Mansour, who took part in the October 7 massacre and launched rocket attacks against Israel.

News Update

Prime Minister Netanyahu met with President Trump in the White House yesterday. He wasn’t successful, at least for now, to get the 17% tariff on Israeli exports to the U.S. removed. Netanyahu pledged to remove all tariffs and other trade barriers on US exports to Israel. According to Israel’s Central Bureau of Statistics, in 2024, Israeli exports of goods to the US (including diamonds) were worth $17.2 billion, while imports from the US were worth $9.2 billion. Israel’s trade surplus with the US is the largest it has with any country. With China, Israel had a trade deficit in goods in 2024 of $10.8 billion. Israel already had removed all tariffs on U.S. imports prior to Netanyahu’s visit, but that didn’t help remove the 17% tariff on Israeli goods. In its interest rate announcement yesterday, the Bank of Israel stated: “Exports of goods to the US, which constitute about 13% of total exports of goods and services, will be significantly affected by the tariffs imposed by the US government, and in addition, the other export components will be adversely affected by the damage to world trade.”

Early today, a female terrorist threw stones and attempted to stab IDF soldiers at a junction near Ariel. The terrorist was neutralized and no soldiers were injured.

Iran is reportedly using the Port of Beirut to smuggle weapons in to resupply Hezbollah, which controls the port.

Israel and Turkey have reportedly been holding direct discussions on Syria to avoid the risk of a military confrontation. According to the report, Israel attacked military sites in Syria last week, including the air bases at Aleppo and the T4 base, at the exact time that Ankara intended to dispatch a technical team to examine the bases and present a preliminary review before they would be rebuilt. The sources said that Netanyahu informed his government that there was a small window of opportunity to target the bases before Turkey moves assets into them and once those assets were there, Israel would not attack the bases.

An envoy of Sudan’s military leader secretly visited Israel to ask for military assistance and diplomatic support in exchange for Sudan signing the Abraham Accords. For more, click here. 

An Israeli court handed down life sentences on two terrorists, cousins, who carried out a fatal attack in Ra’anana in January 2024 in which they murdered Edna Bluestein, 79, a social worker from Raanana, and injured over a dozen others. The court also ordered them to pay 2.3 million shekels in compensation.

News Update

Hamas fired 10 rockets at Ashkelon yesterday, 5 of which were intercepted. One rocket struck a residential neighborhood, causing significant damage. At least 27 people were treated at Barzilai Medical Center, including 17 suffering from shock. Vehicles were damaged and windows and balconies were shattered by the blast. Most of the injuries were light. The IDF said that it struck the launchers in Gaza.

Israel is reportedly planning to resume humanitarian aid deliveries into Gaza within weeks on sooner, partially to avoid violations of international law that could implicate top military and political figures. According to senior defense sources, “there’s no famine or outbreak of disease yet but Gaza is about 40–50 days away from exhausting food stocks.” In the coming months, the IDF plans to begin a pilot program — likely in Rafah — where soldiers will oversee the direct distribution of food and medicine to civilians. This would bypass Hamas and be conducted in coordination with international aid organizations under military supervision. According to international law, Gaza is currently not considered occupied territory, as Hamas is still regarded as the ruling authority.

Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived in Washington yesterday, where he met with U.S. Commerce Secretary Lutnick and trade representative Greer to discuss the 17% tariff imposed by the Trump administration on Israeli exports to the United States. Netanyahu will meet with President Trump at the White House today.

An airstrike early this morning eliminated a Hezbollah artillery commander in southern Lebanon.

Police stopped a vehicle on Highway 6 today and arrested the driver and 9 passengers on suspicion of plotting a terror attack.

The US has reportedly deployed two more Patriot batteries and a second THAAD (Terminal High Altitude Area Defense System) battery to Israel. The first THAAD battery, deployed several months ago, has successfully intercepted several missiles fired at Israel by the Houthis. The U.S. recently reportedly agreed with South Korea to transfer a Patriot battery from South Korea to the Middle East.

Israel’s ambassador to Ethiopia was expelled from the African Union headquarters after member states refused to participate in an annual meeting.

News Update

During an overnight operation in which Israeli troops were seizing weapons and destroying terrorist infrastructure in the Tasil area of southern Syria, armed men opened fire on them. Troops called in artillery and air support, killing 10 gunmen, according to Syrian sources. Yesterday, Israeli airstrikes targeted Damascus International Airport, the T4 airbase near Homs and the military airfield in Hama. Security officials also claimed that Turkish elements were involved in attempts by Syrian rebel groups to establish weapons production infrastructure at the T4 base. Syrian defense sources claimed at least 15 personnel were killed in the Hama strike. The targets reportedly included infrastructure and strategic weapons left behind by the Assad regime. Israel warned Syria’s new leader that it would continue to act to protect its security interests.

The IDF expanded its ground operation in southern Gaza, moving to completely cut off Rafah from the rest of the Strip. Since midnight, the Air Force has struck roughly 60 locations across Gaza from the air, including weapons depots and terrorist compounds.

Hamas said that it would not respond to Israel’s counterproposal for a ceasefire in Gaza, and will stick to its proposal to release 5 Israeli hostages in exchange for hundreds of terrorists held in Israel.

Hungary’s government has decided to withdraw from the International Criminal Court, as Prime Minister Netanyahu arrived in the country for an official visit. As a founding member of the ICC, Hungary is theoretically obliged to arrest and hand over anyone subject to a warrant from the court, but Hungarian President Orban made clear that Hungary would not respect the ruling which he called “brazen, cynical and completely unacceptable.”

News Update

The IDF said it had attacked a terror command and control base in the Jabaliya refugee camp, inside what Palestinian media claims was a UNRWA clinic. The IDF said, “The terrorists were hiding inside a command and control center that was being used for coordinating terrorist activity and served as a central meeting point for the terrorist organization. Additionally, the compound was used by the Hamas’ Jabaliya Battalion to plan terror attacks against Israeli civilians and IDF troops. Prior to the strike, numerous steps were taken to mitigate the risk of harming civilians, including the use of aerial surveillance and additional intelligence.”

IDF operations in Gaza have expanded, following intense overnight airstrikes and artillery cover fire. The Defense Minister said the campaign aims to dismantle Hamas infrastructure and secure broader buffer zones to protect Israeli forces and nearby communities. He said, “Operation Strength and Sword in Gaza is expanding. Its goal is to crush and cleanse the area of terrorists and terror infrastructure and to seize wide areas that will be annexed to Israel’s security zones.” He called on Gaza residents to “act now to expel Hamas and return all hostages. This is the only way to end the war.”

Negotiations for a hostage release continue. Israel is calling for the return of 11 living hostages and half the bodies of the dead, as per Steve Witkoff’s original proposal. Hamas is offering to release five hostages in exchange for a 50-day ceasefire—one hostage per 10 days—without returning bodies.

Israeli intelligence said that the strike yesterday that eliminated a senior Hezbollah terrorists averted an imminent, large scale, terror attack that he was planning to launch abroad, that could have killed hundreds of Israelis. The strike also dealt a significant blow to the collaboration between Hezbollah and Hamas beyond Israel’s borders.

The Pentagon announced yesterday that more U.S. warplanes were being deployed to the Middle East. This comes after several U.S. strikes against the Houthis and threats to bomb Iran if it does not agree to stop developing nuclear weapons. Pentagon spokesperson Sean Parnell said in a statement, “Should Iran or its proxies threaten American personnel and interests in the region, the United States will take decisive action to defend our people.” For more, click here.

Former Prime Minister Naftali Bennett announced that he has registered a new political party under the provisional name “Bennett 2026”. Recent polls indicate that Bennett could do well if new elections are held.

Minister of Finance Bezalel Smotrich signed an order cancelling Israeli tariffs on imports from the US. The order requires approval from the Knesset finance Committee. The tariffs are mainly on agricultural produce and are relatively insignificant.
