News Update

The Health Ministry reported 4,557 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, putting the infection rate at 8.8%. There are currently 1,102 people hospitalized in serious condition and 300 on ventilators. There have been 5,121 coronavirus related deaths since the start of the pandemic. The cabinet approved the extension of the closure of Ben Gurion airport to commercial flights until February 21.

Regarding vaccinations, 22.59% of the population has received the first dose, and 15.88% the second. 

PM Netanyahu pleaded not guilty to multiple corruption charges this morning in Jerusalem District court. This marks the beginning of his trial, although no date has been set on when to begin calling witnesses.

The Palestinian Authority announced Sunday it would begin using its own postal codes, a move at easing the delivery of parcels in the territories as well as asserting sovereignty. But the move is primarily ceremonial, since the PA does not control any sea ports or airports, and all mail must first come through either Jordan or Israel.

The Health Ministry reported 7,168 new coronavirus cases on Thursday, putting the infection rate at 8.8%. There are currently 1,094 people hospitalized in serious condition and 326 on ventilators. There have been 5,019 coronavirus related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

Researchers and doctors at Ichilov Hospital in Tel Aviv and Hadassah Medical Center in Jerusalem have been testing 2 different drugs that have been successful at treating patients with Covid-19. To read more, click here.

Over 3.3 million Israelis have already received the first dose of the vaccine, and over 1.9 million the second dose.

Syrian media reported on Wednesday that Israel attacked Hezbollah targets near the Golan Heights.

A Palestinian terrorist who tried to attack a farm near the settlement of Neria early this morning was neutralized by farm guards and the farm owner.

The Health Ministry reported 7,919 new coronavirus cases on Tuesday. The infection rate is at 9.3%. The infection rate in the ultra-Orthodox sector is at 20.1%. There are currently 1,074 people hospitalized in serious condition and 292 on ventilators. There have been 4,888 coronavirus related deaths since the start of the pandemic.

PM Netanyahu wants to extend the nationwide lockdown through the weekend, to allow for an additional 200,000 people to get vaccinated.

Over 3 million Israelis have already received the first dose of the vaccine and 2 million the second dose. Anyone over 16 will be able to get the vaccine starting tomorrow.

Tesla launched its Hebrew language website in Israel yesterday, inviting customers to order cars for delivery in March.

The Health Ministry reported 5,140 new coronavirus cases on Sunday, which was a lower number as a result of limited testing over the weekend. The infection rate is at 9.6%. The infection rate in the ultra-Orthodox sector is at 20.1%. There are currently 1,140 people hospitalized in serious condition and 315 on ventilators. There have been 4,796 coronavirus related deaths since the start of the pandemic. The government voted to extend the nationwide lockdown by another 4 days.

Over 2.5 million Israelis have already received the first dose of the vaccine. Over 1.8 million have received the second dose. Israel will transfer 20,000 vaccine doses to the Palestinian Authority.

Israel and Kosovo will sign an agreement to establish diplomatic relations in a virtual ceremony today. Kosovo has said that it will open an embassy in Jerusalem. A majority of the Balkan country is Muslim.

According to the latest election polls, Likud is expected to win 30 seats, followed by Yesh Atid at 17, New Hope at 16, Yamina 14, Arab Joint List 10, UTJ 8, Shas 8, Yisrael Beyteinu 6, Meretz 5, Labor 4, Blue and White 4.

Israel completed testing an upgraded version of the Iron Dome air defense system today. The more-advanced model of the Iron Dome is due to be installed on the Israeli Navy’s new Sa’ar-6 corvettes.
