Prime Minister Netanyahu is reportedly showing flexibility regarding potential Israeli withdrawals as part of a ceasefire agreement with Hamas. During last nights cabinet meeting, IDF representatives estimated that establishing the planned “humanitarian city” in Rafah — a vast tent camp intended to house up to half a million displaced Gazans — would take over a year and cost between $10 billion and $15 billion. This sharply contrasts with earlier projections suggesting the camp could be built within six months. Netanyahu was reportedly angered by the estimate and demanded a “more realistic” plan that would be shorter less expensive and more practical.
The IDF attacked several tanks in a town in Sweida province in southern Syria near the city of Sweida, where there has been fighting between Druze, Bedouin and government forces in recent days, causing at least 30 deaths. Government forces have been deployed to restore calm and guarantee safe passage for civilians looking to leave. Today, 6 government soldiers were killed in new clashes.
Israeli officials are investigating the alleged killing of a Palestinian-American by settlers, during a confrontation near the village of Sinjil in Samaria. The settlers were reportedly defending themselves against an attack by Palestinians. For more, click here.
The Wall Street Journal reported that Prime Minister Netanyahu told President Trump that Israel would resume attacking Iran if the country resumes its pursuit of nuclear weapons. Trump reportedly replied that he preferred a diplomatic solution, but did not directly oppose the idea.
