News Update
Since the resumption of fighting in Gaza last week, the IDF has eliminated over 150 terrorists who were under surveillance, including top Hamas leaders and commanders, and has struck over 400 Hamas targets, including over 100 white pickup trucks used in the Oct. 7 massacre. IDF forces have also been operating in northern Gaza and in Rafah, while taking into consideration the need to avoid harm to the hostages, which is why operations have been relatively small in scale and highly targeted. Analysts say that Israel is signaling to Hamas that it has not yet operated at full force, in the hope that Hamas will make a proposal regarding the hostages.
Hundreds of residents of northern Gaza protested yesterday, carrying signs saying “End the war now,” and “Hamas, out, Hamas must go.” Hamas terrorists arrived at the scene to break up the demonstration.
Incoming U.S. Ambassador to Israel Mike Huckabee said, at his confirmation hearing before the Senate Foreign Relations Committee yesterday, “A Palestinian state should be created elsewhere in the larger Arab world, although those who wish to stay should not be forced out.” As whether it was acceptable for Jewish settlers to push Palestinians off their land, he said, “The law must be followed. Stealing land is not acceptable, but purchasing land is.” He stressed that his highest priority would be to work for the release of all of the hostages.
Israel’s Supreme Court upheld its decision to temporarily suspend the firing of Shin Bet chief Ronen Bar by the government, but it allowed the Prime Minister to interview candidates for the job.
