News Update
The war against Iran is 20 days in, Israel and the U.S. continue to bomb the hell out of Iran and eliminate its regime leadership, but the Iranians still have enough capabilities to attack crucial oil and gas fields and infrastructure in the Gulf states and to choke off the Strait of Hormuz to tankers, causing the global oil market to rocket higher.
Yesterday, Israel struck Iranian naval vessels at an Iranian port in the Caspian Sea. The Caspian Sea is bordered by Russia, Kazakhstan, Azerbaijan and Turkmenistan. Israel also struck the Iranian side of the world’s largest natural gas field, which it shares with Qatar, with full U.S. support — although President Trump later said that he did not want Israel to hit the gas field. Trump then posted, “NO MORE ATTACKS WILL BE MADE BY ISRAEL pertaining to this extremely important and valuable South Pars Field unless Iran unwisely decides to attack a very innocent, in this case, Qatar. In which instance the United States of America, with or without the help or consent of Israel, will massively blow up the entirety of the South Pars Gas Field at an amount of strength and power that Iran has never seen or witnessed before.”
Four Palestinian women were killed and thirteen wounded when an Iranian missile struck a hair salon southwest of Hebron. Yesterday, an elderly Israeli couple was killed by a cluster bomb before they could reach a shelter, in Ramat Gan. Also, a 30 year old migrant worker was killed by shrapnel in central Israel. Iran fired more barrages at Israel overnight and this morning.
In his recent resignation post, former Director of the National Counterterrorism Center Joe Kent said, “I cannot in good conscience support the ongoing war in Iran. Iran posed no imminent threat to our nation, and it is clear that we started this war due to pressure from Israel and its powerful American lobby.” Classic Antisemitism 101. Shocking. Unfortunately, he’s not alone in his beliefs, although I do think that he is still in the minority. But it’s real and brewing beneath the surface.
