Israel continues to strike military sites in Syria, having launched over 300 strikes since the fall of the Assad regime. Targets include advanced weapons development sites, air force bases, radar installations, air defense systems, missiles and chemical weapons depots. Syrian sources report that the Syrian army’s weaponry has been completely wiped out. Last night Israel destroyed most of Syria’s navy, including numerous ships armed with anti-ship missiles, at the Al-Baida and Latakia ports. Israeli forces took control of the demilitarized zone along the border inside Syria and are now reportedly positioned approximately 15.5 miles from Damascus. Saudi Arabia, Egypt and other Arab states have condemned Israel for occupying Syrian territory. Israel said that it is only in Syria temporarily, in order to ensure its security amidst the current chaos.
Three soldiers from the Givati Brigade were killed Monday in Jabaliya (Gaza) by an anti-tank missile fired at them as they were preparing to board an armored truck. Twelve other soldiers were wounded in the attack, 3 seriously. The killed were: Staff Sergeant Ido Zano, 20, from Yehud-Monosson, a combat medic; Staff Sergeant Barak Daniel Halpern, 19, from Kiryat Ono, a squad commander; and Sergeant Omri Cohen, 19, from Ashdod. An IDF airstrike today killed 10 Hamas terrorists involved in the attack.
Israeli sources expressed optimism at the possibility of reaching a deal with Hamas within a week or 2. Foreign Minister Gideon Sa’ar said, “We’re not there yet, but I hope we’ll get there.” Hamas has reportedly presented the Egyptians with a list of living hostages and a list of Palestinian terrorists in Israeli prisons that they want released.
