U.S. Vice President J.D. Vance arrived in Israel today to advance the launch of an international task force, led by the U.S., focused on recovering the remains of hostages still held by Hamas in Gaza. While Hamas has returned the remains of several hostages, most of the remains of the 28 hostages who were killed either on October 7th or in captivity, are still in Gaza. Hamas claims that they don’t know where all of the bodies are or are unable to locate them in the rubble. U.S. officials have emphasized the importance of recovering all hostages, both living and deceased, as a prerequisite for moving forward with the next phases of the ceasefire deal.
Hassan Mahmoud Rashad, the head of Egypt’s General Intelligence Service, arrived in Israel today and met with Prime Minister Netanyahu and other Israeli officials, regarding the Trump peace framework, strengthening peace between Egypt and Israel, and other regional issues. Netanyahu has reportedly strongly opposes the entry of Turkish military forces into the Gaza Strip. He also opposes Turkish companies taking part in the rebuilding of the Strip.
According to Israeli sources, Hamas has been taking a significant part in forming the proposed technocratic government that would govern the Gaza Strip after the war, by selecting about half of the candidates for the new governing body. The remaining candidates were reportedly chosen by the Palestinian Authority. Arab mediators are reportedly fully aware of the situation.
