News Update

Israel is reviewing a new framework proposed by U.S. envoy Steve Witkoff that includes the release of 10 living hostages and the remains of 18 others held by Hamas in exchange for a 60-day ceasefire. Under the framework, the 10 living hostages and half of the deceased will be returned in two phases, a week apart. The fate of the remaining hostages would depend on the outcome of ceasefire negotiations. If no agreement is reached within the 60-day period, Israel would have the option to resume military operations. The framework also stipulates that Hamas will provide a complete list of all hostages, including detailed medical reports, by the 10th day of the ceasefire. In return, Israel would release 125 prisoners serving life sentences, 1,111 terrorists from Gaza arrested after October 7 and 180 bodies of terrorists, also in two phases. Humanitarian aid through the UN would also resume and Israeli forces would withdraw to positions held prior to the collapse of the previous ceasefire in mid-March. The White House is reportedly optimistic about the success of the new framework. Meanwhile, the Gaza Humanitarian Fund (GHF) continued distributing aid to thousands of civilians today.

With the help of Israeli intelligence, the Lebanese Army has managed to disarm over 80% of Hezbollah forces in southern Lebanon and take control of most of the south, which has come as a pleasant surprise to Israel. According to Lebanese government sources, Hezbollah has even relinquished security control over key sites, including Beirut International Airport. Lebanese officials acknowledge the move is both unusual and significant, but doubts remain about whether progress can extend northward. Analysts familiar with the Hezbollah’s strategy believe its current cooperation is an attempt to gain internal legitimacy and secure reconstruction aid from the West and Gulf states, which have conditioned assistance on Hezbollah’s diminished power. Meanwhile, an IDF airstrike killed a Hezbollah terrorist in southern Lebanon today.

The ports in Yemen will continue to be severely damaged, and the airport in Sanaa will be destroyed again and again, as will other strategic infrastructure used by the Houthi terrorist organization and its supporters. The Houthi terrorist organization will be under naval and air blockade – as we pledged and warned. Whoever harms us will be harmed sevenfold.” The attack comes in response to continued Houthi missile attacks against Israel.

U.S. envoys Steve Witkoff and Adam Boehler told hostage families in a meeting on Monday that there’s a significant chance of progress in negotiations for the release of their loved ones in the coming days. The U.S. is reportedly pressing Israel to accept a version of a deal in which Hamas receives American guarantees for an end to the war. Hamas is insisting that any deal be signed by Witkoff himself, who would also be required to shake hands with senior Hamas official Khalil al-Hayya, which would amount to American recognition of Hamas. Israeli officials view Hamas’ willingness to negotiate a deal short of ending the war as a breakthrough, caused by increased Israeli military pressure.

Two staff members of Israel’s Embassy in Washington, D.C., were shot dead outside the city’s Jewish Museum late on Wednesday. Lischinsky, who was not Jewish, immigrated to Israel from his native Germany when he was 16 and settled in Jerusalem. According to his LinkedIn page, he served as an assistant in the embassy’s policy department and was responsible for monitoring trends and events in the Middle East and North Africa.

Milgrim, an American citizen, worked in the Embassy’s public diplomacy department and liaised with the local community. Before being posted to Washington, she had worked for the Tech2Peace organization, where she researched processes of peace with an emphasis on the roots of the Israeli-Palestinian conflict.

Israeli ambassador to Washington Yechiel Leiter said Lischinsky had just bought an engagement ring for Milgrim and was going to propose in Jerusalem next week. In a social-media post early Thursday, Trump wrote: “These horrible D.C. killings, based obviously on antisemitism, must end, NOW! Israel is also preparing for an upcoming UN Security Council meeting on May 28, where several European countries are expected to push for a ceasefire in Gaza and the entry of humanitarian aid. Israel, once again working in coordination with the U.S., is hoping Washington will veto any such resolution.

The White House confirmed U.S. engagement in direct talks with Hamas to release all of the hostages and end the war. The WH Press Secretary said, “The president wants the war in Gaza to end. The president continues, not just through his team but personally, to speak with the parties involved. He made it clear to Hamas that he wants to see all hostages freed.” A Washington Post report yesterday claimed that the White House issued an ultimatum demanding that Israel end the war or risk losing U.S. support.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Al-Thani said that negotiations between Israel and Hamas have reached a dead end, blaming Israel. He said, “One side seeks a comprehensive agreement for Gaza, while the other insists on a partial deal. We have not been able to bridge the gap.” Meanwhile, in remarks made at the Jerusalem Post Conference in New York, Adam Boehler, U.S. President Donald Trump’s envoy for hostage affairs, said progress was being made. “We’re getting closer to a deal. The U.K., France and Canada issued a joint statement yesterday demanding an immediate end to Israel’s military operations in Gaza and the lifting of restrictions on humanitarian aid. They accused Israel of withholding essential aid, calling it a potential violation of international humanitarian law. They also condemned any attempt to displace the population of Gaza. Today, the French Foreign Minister reiterated the main points of the statement and France’s support of a Palestinian state as well as the threat of EU sanctions. Other Western countries and humanitarian agencies joined in the condemnation of the new humanitarian aid distribution system devised by Israel and U.S., saying that it is totally inadequate to properly service the Gaza population.

Meanwhile, the IDF offensive in Gaza continues, with hundreds of Hamas targets struck over the last several days. The IDF insists that it is taking great precautions to avoid civilian casualties as well as harming the hostages. Sgt. Yosef Yehuda Chirak, 22, a combat engineer with the 601st Battalion, was killed in action in northern Gaza. Chirak was a resident of the Harasha outpost in the Binyamin region of Samaria and the son-in-law of Yehuda Eliyahu, director-general of the Settlement Directorate in the Defense Ministry. He is survived by his wife Emunah, whom he married just seven months earlier, as well as his parents and three sisters.

[No country can allow a terrorist army to exist along its border, especially one that perpetrated the horrors of Oct. 7. It simply does not make sense in any context or scenario, except for when it relates to Israel. It is immoral to allow Hamas to continue to remain armed and in tact in Gaza. The fastest and simplest way to end the war and the humanitarian crisis is for the nations of the world to join together and force Hamas to release all of the hostages and to surrender and leave Gaza. Forcing Israel to live alongside Hamas means siding with evil and darkness. The Jewish People have suffered the wrath of evil and darkness. Never Again.]

According to the Talmud, during this period of time in the second century in Israel, 24,000 students of the great sage Rabbi Akiva mysteriously died. One of the reasons given by the Talmud was that their deaths were punishment for their ill treatment of one and other. Whatever the reasons, the students stopped dying on Lag B’omer and so the rabbis turned it into a day of celebration.

Tens of thousands of Jews converged on the town of Meron in the Galilee last night to celebrate the festival of Lag B’omer at the tomb of the second century Talmudic sage Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai (also a student of Rabbi Akiva) who died on Lag B’omer and who is credited in Jewish tradition for authoring the Zohar, the famous cornerstone of the Kabbalah (Jewish mystical teachings).

According to the Zohar, on the day of his death Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai gathered together all of his students, who were the greatest sages of the time, and revealed to them the deepest secrets of the Kabbalah. During this momentous session his home was filled with an intense light, like a fire.

May the merit and the light of Rabi Shimon Bar Yochai bring healing, unity and salvation to Israel and to the entire world.

Israel is engaged in a multi-front war for its very existence following the horrific massacre committed by Hamas against innocent people on October 7th, including the murder and kidnapping of dozens of French nationals. Instead of supporting the Western democratic camp fighting the Islamist terrorist organizations and calling for the release of the hostages, Macron is once again demanding that Israel surrender and reward terrorism. Israel will not stop and will not surrender.”
