U.S. Secretary of State Marco Rubio visited Jerusalem on Sunday, where he joined Prime Minister Netanyahu at the Western Wall. The two prayed together and toured newly opened Second Temple period tunnels beneath the Old City. Netanyahu called the U.S.–Israel alliance “as strong and durable as the stones of the Wall.” Rubio is expected to Visit Qatar on Tuesday.
IDF Chief of Staff Zamir briefed the Knesset Subcommittee on Intelligence on Friday and reportedly said that he has not received clear guidance from Prime Minister Netanyahu on the next steps in Gaza. He reportedly said, “The prime minister is not telling us what comes next, we don’t know what to prepare for. If they want a military government, then they should say military government.” He also criticized the American backed Gaza Humanitarian Foundation aid program, saying that is wasn’t working, and enumerated his concerns about invading Gaza City. But Zamir stressed the military would carry out the directives of the political leadership.
Border Police officers shot and killed a Palestinian attempting to enter Jerusalem through a breach in the security fence today. The same breach was used by the terrorists who killed 6 people in the Jerusalem bus attack last week. Most of the Palestinians who enter thru the breach are seeking work, which is the main reason why the government hasn’t sealed the breach in years.
