News Update
The IDF issued evacuation orders to civilians in several areas of western Khan Younis, as military operations intensify there. Operations are also continuing in other parts of Gaza.
The U.K. is reportedly continuing to fly reconnaissance flights over Gaza in an attempt to locate hostages, and are transferring their information to Israel. While the intelligence is meant to be used to locate hostages, it can obviously also be used for offensive operations. The U.K. also continues to provide Israel with military aid. In a War Cabinet meeting yesterday, IDF Chief of Staff Zamir presented several operational options for Gaza, but was opposed to a full military takeover of the Strip — while making it clear that he would execute any directive from the political leadership. The Prime Minister’s proposal to occupy Gaza is set to be brought before the full cabinet on Thursday evening. Zamir is in favor of encircling Gaza and conducting precision operations, to allow the IDF to rest and revitalize and to avoid harming the hostages. Netanyahu has reportedly received a “green light” from the White House for a strong move in Gaza. [In addition to requiring the IDF to enter populated areas where hostages are believed to be held, a full occupation would require Israel to bear full responsibility for all civil services and humanitarian aid, as well as rebuilding Gaza. You can see how that could cause lots of problems and financial burdens.🧐]
Germany’s Süddeutsche Zeitung published an investigative report revealing how Hamas manipulates imagery to shape international opinion. The report details how the group stages images of hunger and despair in Gaza, using professional photographers covering the war. While acknowledging the reality of severe food shortages in the Gaza Strip, the paper emphasized that many widely circulated images of emaciated children do not accurately reflect current conditions. Some of the photos are not from Gaza at all, while others feature children suffering from chronic illnesses unrelated to the war. One image obtained by the paper shows photographers directing Gazans to pose as though they were waiting in line for food. Germany’s Journalists’ Association (DJV) also issued a warning to local media outlets about “manipulation attempts through professionally produced press photography.” [This doesn’t mean that there aren’t food shortages in Gaza and that civilians are not suffering from them. But it does prove that Hamas is manipulating photos and media reports to paint a much more dire picture in order to demonize Israel in sway world opinion against Israel and in line with the goals of Hamas. For the most part, Hamas is succeeding in a big way — which is why spreading the truth, including this email, is so important.]
A reported U.S. proposal, presented by U.S. envoy Tom Barrack, calls for a four-phase process to end Israel–Lebanon hostilities by late 2025. The plan would require Hezbollah to disarm, Lebanon to reform and deploy its military along the border, the two countries to finalize border demarcation, and Israel to withdraw from disputed areas. It appears now that the Trump administration has quietly rescinded a policy (reported in our last email) tying federal disaster funds to opposition to boycotts of Israeli companies. Seems like the administration is stepping back from imposing political tests on federal aid.
