The ceasefire is holding.
A preliminary report on the U.S. attacks on Iranian nuclear facilities by the Defense Intelligence Agency found that they set back the Iranians by just 3 to 6 months. The Trump administration denies the findings, saying that the damage was far greater and completely destroyed Iran’s nuclear program. As more data is gathered, the initial assessment could be revised. Other intelligence agencies have also yet to provide their assessments of the damage. The head of the International Atomic Energy Agency said that the damage to Fordow was likely significant.
U.S. officials believe that Iran still has control of around 400 kilograms of highly enriched uranium it has produced since 2021, which it likely moved from Isphahan days before the attack and secretly hid. Nicole Grajewski, a fellow in the Nuclear Policy Program at the Carnegie Endowment for International Peace, said, “The country’s nuclear program remains large and distributed with significant redundancy in expertise and leadership. Iran doesn’t need to rebuild its entire previous infrastructure but could develop a smaller, focused capability sufficient for weapons production.”
Turns out that Iran’s Quds Force chief Esmail Qaani wasn’t killed during the “12 Day War” as reported. He turned up at a “victory celebration” in Tehran yesterday.
