News Update
Early today, 12 IDF soldiers were wounded when an explosive-laden first-person-view (FPV) drone directly struck a vehicle in the Shomera area near the Lebanese border. Two of the soldiers were moderately wounded and the others sustained light injuries. The FPV drones are operated via a thin fiber-optic cable, allowing operators to transmit commands and real-time video without using radio waves, making them resistant to electronic warfare jamming. IDF officers are calling for removing operational constraints and shifting to a more offensive approach, aimed not only at stopping individual drones but at striking the systems behind them. This would include targeting infrastructure, equipment depots, operational units and supply chains tied to the drone network.
Hezbollah also shot down an IDF drone with a surface-to-air missile. In response, the IDF targeted Hezbollah targets in southern Lebanon with airstrikes, artillery fire and drones.
IDF naval forces seized 21 out of 60 vessels off the coast of Crete that were part of a flotilla, manned by activists, aimed at imposing a blockade against Israel. The boats attempted to block a Zim shipping company vessel bound for Israel, which violated maritime law. The seized boats were disabled, with their engines rendered inoperable and left at sea. Around 40 other vessels continue toward Israel under close monitoring. Another flotilla of about 40 boats from Turkey is also expected to join the “Spring Flotilla.” Around 170 activists were taken into custody and are being brought to Israel on a navy “detention” vessel. They will be deported. Israeli officials said the vessels that were seized were the flotilla’s “main and most significant” ships.
According to the U.S. State Department, the Palestinian Authority continues to pay tens of millions of dollars to terrorists and their families. Under the Taylor Force Act (2018), Washington is unable to offer economic aid to Ramallah until it ends pay-for-slay payments and its statements of public support for terrorism.
