Prime Minister Netanyahu congratulated President Trump on his election win. He tweeted, “Dear Donald and Melania Trump, Congratulations on history’s greatest comeback! Your historic return to the White House offers a new beginning for America and a powerful recommitment to the great alliance between Israel and America. This is a huge victory! In true friendship, yours, Benjamin and Sara Netanyahu.” The question now is whether President Biden will use his last 2 months in office to pressure Israel into making concessions in negotiations with Hezbollah and Hamas, or possibly refrain from vetoing an anti-Israel resolution in the UN Security Council, like former President Obama did before he left office in 2016. However, there is no question that the Trump administration will be solidly pro-Israel.
Prime Minister Netanyahu fired Defense Minister Gallant, citing a breakdown of trust during the ongoing war. He said, “At a time of war, full trust between the prime minister and the defense minister is critical. Unfortunately, this trust has eroded, and attempts to bridge the gaps have failed.” He added, “This crisis has become public knowledge and prevents the proper management of the war effort.” Foreign Minister Israel Katz, who previously served as finance and intelligence minister, will become Defense Minster. Former Justice Minister Gideon Sa’ar will become Foreign Minister.
Hezbollah fired a barrage of rockets at the Tel Aviv area. One rocket fell in the parking lot of Ben Gurion Airport. No injuries were reported.
A woman and teen were lightly injured in a ramming attack at the entrance to the settlement of Shilo today. The terrorist was neutralized by security forces.
Prime Minister Netanyahu yesterday offered $5 million for the release of each hostage held by Hamas, along with safe passage for the captors to a third country. Communication with mediators continues.
