News Update

Thankfully, Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump seem to be on the same page regarding the need to disarm Hamas before rebuilding Gaza and the permissibility of striking Iran if it continues building up its ballistic missile arsenal. Trump made these points clear during their meeting yesterday at Mar-a-Lago. The US-Israel relationship is as solid as ever.

Shortly after the meeting, the Pentagon announced that Boeing has received an $8.6 billion contract to supply Israel with 25 new F‑15 fighter jets, with an option for 25 more.  The new F‑15IA jets are to be equipped with the latest weapons systems, including advanced Israeli‑developed technologies, as well as enhancements designed to extend flight range, increase payload capacity and improve performance across a range of operational scenarios.

The U.N. Security Council held an emergency session over Israel’s recognition of Somaliland. [Yup, this is real!] US deputy ambassador to the United Nations Tammy Bruce sharply criticized members of the UN Security Council, accusing them of applying “double standards” toward Israel. She said, “Israel has the right to recognize the independence of Somaliland,” and compared it to European countries recognizing “Palestine”.

Hundreds of police officers, yesterday, carried out what authorities described as a “full encirclement” of the Bedouin town of Tarabin in southern Israel, following unrest linked to vandalism and arson attacks in nearby Jewish communities. Police said the operation was carried out “with force and determination” to strengthen governance, enforce the rule of law and respond decisively to serious criminal activity. The heightened tensions followed the arrest on Saturday of three young men from Tarabin suspected of vandalizing property and setting vehicles on fire in the nearby Jewish communities of Givot Bar and Mishmar HaNegev. Additional residents were detained on suspicion of rioting and possession of stolen military weapons.

News Update

Prime Minister Netanyahu and President Trump are meeting at Maro Lago in Florida today. The topics will undoubtedly include the Hamas non-disarmament, Israel remaining in control of 51% of Gaza, the growing Iranian ballistic missile (and possibly nuclear) threat, the return of the remains of the last Israeli hostage, and more.

Last week, Israel recognized Somaliland, a Sunni Muslim state declared over 30 years ago in the northern part of Somalia, which has not been recognized by any countries, until now. Somaliland is located along the coast of the Gulf of Aden, across from Yemen — which should make the strategic reasons for Israel’s recognition obvious. Turkey and the Arab nations condemned Israel for recognizing Somaliland, except for the UAE, which has a naval base in the country and is also backing an opposition group in Yemen.  For more, click here.

The first Iron Beam high energy laser defense system has been delivered to the IDF and is being integrated into Israel’s multi-layered defense system, alongside the Iron Dome, David’s Sling and the Arrow air missile defense systems. The Iron Beam system is equipped with an advanced laser source and a unique electro-optical aiming system, which allows it to intercept a wide range of targets with an upgraded operating range, maximum accuracy and very high efficiency, costing around $5 per shot. The system be operated from the same control vehicle as the Iron Dome. The Iron Dome will be used to intercept rocket threats within a range of 40 kilometers, while Iron Beam will have a range of up to 10 kilometers.

Defense Minister Israel Katz announced that Jews will be allowed to visit Joseph’s Tomb in Shechem (Nablus) during daylight hours, for the first time in 25 years. During the next visit to the site, the Jewish visitors will be allowed to remain at the compound until 8:00 a.m., instead of being required to leave by 4:00 a.m. The change will also allow the Shacharit (morning) prayers to be held at the site. Jewish visitors to the site have, until now, been required to visit at night and to leave by 4:00am.

Archaeologists have uncovered a rare rock-hewn mikveh, or ritual bath, dating to the final days of the Second Temple period directly beneath the Western Wall Plaza. The mikveh was found sealed beneath a significant layer of destruction dated to 70 CE. Within this layer, researchers discovered burned ash and various pottery and stone vessels. The find comes ahead of tomorrow’s Fast Day of Asarah B’tevet (the 10th of Tevet), which commemorates the start of the siege of Jerusalem by the Babylonians that lead to the destruction of the First Temple in 587 BCE.

A 37 year old terrorist, who entered Israel illegally from his village in Samaria, rammed his car into a 68 year old man in Beit She’an (in northern Israel), killing him. A short time later he rammed into a 16 year old, lightly injuring him. The terrorist then drove onto Highway 71 toward the Ein Harod area, where he rammed a vehicle carrying a 19-year-old woman near Kibbutz Tel Yosef. The woman, Aviv Maor of Kibbutz Ein Harod Ihud, managed to flee her car, but the terrorist chased her and stabbed her to death. The terrorist then drove toward Afula, where he was stopped near the city and neutralized by a security guard.

Israel launched a wave of airstrikes against Hezbollah targets across Lebanon, including training sites, weapons depots and other infrastructure. The IDF said that one of the main targets was a training and preparation compound used by Hezbollah’s elite Radwan Force, where operatives conducted live-fire drills and other weapons training and planned attacks. The IDF said about 15 Hezbollah targets were struck in southern and central Lebanon, more than 10 Hezbollah military sites north of the Litani River.

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir has ordered the armed forces to use the name “War of Revival” in official events and documents, complying with a request from Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu to formally rename the war that began on October 7. Until now, the military had referred to the war as “Swords of Iron,” the name assigned on October 7.

News Update

According to the Saudi paper Al Arabiya, Mossad agents abducted an ex-Lebanese security official, Ahmed Shukr, the cousin of Hezbollah’s last (and late) chief of staff. He is suspected of being connected to those who abducted Ron Arad, an Israeli air force navigator forced to eject over Lebanon and captured by Shiite Amal fighters in 1986. Israel has been searching for Arad since then. Shukr was taken to Israel for interrogation.

An IDF officer was lightly wounded today when an explosive device was detonated against an armored vehicle during operations in Rafah. The IDF is examining whether the device was newly planted in recent days or left behind earlier in the war. Prime Minister Netanyahu warned that, “Israel will respond accordingly,” and that Hamas’ refusal to disarm is an ongoing violation of the ceasefire agreement.

Meanwhile, Turkish Foreign Minister Hakan Fidan met with Hamas political bureau officials in Ankara today to discuss the ceasefire in Gaza and advancing the agreement to its second phase. Hamas claimed that they have already fulfilled their obligations and complained that not enough humanitarian aid was entering Gaza.

The IDF Artillery Corps has received the first Israeli-made self-propelled howitzer artillery gun. Known in Hebrew as Ro’em (Thunderous) and in English as the SIGMA 155, the wheeled artillery system features automatic shell loading, a reduced crew of three soldiers instead of seven, firing ranges of up to 40 kilometers (25 miles) and advanced command-and-control technology. Unlike tracked artillery, the wheeled SIGMA 155 can move more rapidly between firing positions, including across difficult terrain, offering a level of operational flexibility for ground-based fire support not previously available to Israeli forces. News Update

As we celebrate the 8th, and final, day of Hanukkah, Prime Minister Netanyahu will meet with the Prime Ministers of Greece and Cyprus for trilateral talks in Jerusalem, to deepen security and energy cooperation in the face of growing tensions with Turkey. [So the Jews and Greeks are now on the same side!] Some reports say that the 2 countries are planning to form a joint intervention force, but Israel has denied those reports … for now. Meanwhile, Turkey launched several new naval vessels as part of its “Blue Homeland” (Mavi Vatan) doctrine, which aims to extend Turkish influence across the Aegean Sea, Eastern Mediterranean and Black Sea.

Next week Prime Minister Netanyahu will try to get President Trump’s backing for more strikes against Iran, which is reportedly rebuilding its ballistic missile capabilities and possibly also its nuclear facilities. Netanyahu will meet with Trump in Maro Lago. Another major topic of discussion will be the disarming of Hamas, which doesn’t seem to be happening but was a primary condition of the ceasefire agreement. It doesn’t seem like any Arab or Muslim country has the will, or stomach, to disarm Hamas, which would leave the IDF as the only force ready, willing and able to get the job done. And then there’s Hezbollah, which the Lebanese government is supposed to disarm, but is clearly not strong enough to do. There’s still lots of work to be done to achieve the peace that President Trump has already proclaimed.

For now, let’s be thankful for all the miracles that we have been, and continue to be, blessed with every day.

Happy Hanukkah!

News Update

Israel has finalized a massive $34 billion natural gas export deal with Egypt. Around $18 billion will go to the Israel’s treasury. The deal will guarantee Israeli gas exports to Egypt for 15 years. Israeli officials believe that Egyptian dependency on Israeli gas will deter Egypt from violating it’s peace treaty with Israel. According to information gathered in recent years, Egypt has introduced forces into Sinai far beyond what is permitted under the security annex of the peace treaty. It has also built tunnels deep inside Sinai for storing weapons and has suspiciously extended runways at airfields. Egypt had been in talks with Qatar to build a gas pipeline, prior to the agreement with Israel.

Nvidia, currently the world’s most valuable company, announced plans to invest close to $2 billion to build a major new campus in northern Israel, near Haifa. Construction is slated to begin in 2027, with initial occupancy planned for 2031. The site will cover 22 acres, with 160,000 square meters of built space. Israel is already the company’s largest and most important development center outside the United States, and Nvidia is one of the largest employers in the Israeli high‑tech sector. The new campus will accommodate over 10,000 workers, double Nvidia’s current workforce in Israel.

Israel’s Ministry of Defense has announced that Germany’s Bundestag has approved the expansion of its Arrow 3 deal with Israel Aerospace Industries (IAI) by an additional $3.1 billion. The latest Arrow 3 deal, signed by the Israeli and German defense ministries, will bring the total amount Germany is spending on the long-range missile defense system to more than $6.7 billion.

Prime Minister Netanyahu officially broke ground on the “Tel Aviv Metro”, a long awaited project that will take years to complete and will cost over 150 – 200 billion shekels. Once completed, it is expected to serve about 2 million passengers a day, connect more than 20 local authorities and fundamentally transform public transportation across the Tel Aviv metropolitan area. The completion date is 2040.

Former prime minister Naftali Bennett acknowledged that his Telegram account was hacked by Iranian-linked hackers, who published thousands of phone numbers and private messages attributed to him and his associates.

News Update

Israel’s Elbit Systems has signed a 2.3 billion dollar contract with the UAE to sell a “strategic security system” based on a “unique and groundbreaking technology.” It’s Elbit’s largest sale ever, and Israel’s second largest arms export, behind the 4.2 billion Euros Arrow missile system sold to Germany in 2023.

The U.S. has reportedly asked Israel to give the Lebanese more time to disarm Hezbollah, which is supposed to be accomplish by the end of this year, according to the ceasefire agreement. But the Lebanese Army doesn’t seem to have the power to get the job done, despite its willingness to do so. The U.S. has warned Lebanon that if they cannot disarm Hezbollah, it will not be able to restrain Israel from doing it for them, the hard way. The subject will undoubtedly be discussed when Prime Minister Netanyahu meets with President Trump in Maro Lago in a couple of weeks. I’m sure they’ll also discuss the disarming of Hamas, which doesn’t seem like it’s going to happen without IDF intervention.

A private Canadian delegation that included 6 members of Canada’s parliament, was prevented by Israel from entering the West Bank. The delegation was sponsored by the group The Canadian-Muslim Vote, which is linked to Islamic Relief Worldwide, a nongovernmental organization that Israel lists as a terror group. The Israeli Embassy statement said Israel “will not allow the entry of organizations and individuals who are associated with designated terror entities.”

News Update

On Saturday, the IDF eliminated Raad Saad, Hamas’ second-in-command and head of operations in its military wing, in a drone strike on the vehicle he was driving in Gaza City.  Three other Hamas terrorists were killed with him. Saad was one of the architects of the Oct. 7 massacre. Earlier in the day, 2 IDF soldiers were wounded by a Hamas explosive device in Khan Younis. The incident was cited by the Prime Minister and Defense Minister as the pretense for the elimination on Saad. Yesterday, a senior Hamas internal security officer was assassinated by a pro-Israel Gazan militia.

Yesterday, 2 Islamic terrorists (a father and son) opened fire on a menorah lighting ceremony on the first night of Hanukkah in Sydney, Australia’s Bondi Beach, where over 1,000 Jews has come to celebrate the first night of the holiday. Fifteen people were murdered in the terror attack, including Chabad Rabbi Eli Schlanger, Holocaust survivor Alex Kleitman, a 12 year of child. Many people were wounded. One of the terrorists was killed and the other severely wounded and arrested. A moslem man, Ahmed al-Ahmed, who was at the scene was videoed jumping on one of the terrorists and disarming him, before being shot twice himself. Prime Minister Netanyahu and Foreign Minister Sa’ar both accused Australian Prime Minister Albanese for failing to take a firm stand against antisemitism and for allowing public displays of anti-Israel and antisemitic hatred in the country.

A rare lead pendant decorated with a seven-branched menorah, dated to the 6th to early 7th century CE during the Late Byzantine period, was discovered during archaeological excavations at Jerusalem’s Temple Mount, in the southwestern corner. Researchers believe the artifact was worn by a Jewish individual who traveled to Jerusalem despite Byzantine-era restrictions barring Jews from the city. Both sides of the pendant had the image of the menorah on it. Dr. Yuval Baruch, who has directed excavations at the site for approximately 25 years and specializes in menorah studies, said: “During the Byzantine period the menorah became a symbol of national memory, and it expressed the expectation of national revival among the Jewish communities in the Land of Israel; in the Diaspora, they adopted it in exactly the same way. Moreover, in recent years, there is increased archaeological evidence that show that Jews, despite all the prohibitions and difficulties imposed on them, found the ways to reach Jerusalem and it is possible that there were even some who settled there.”

News Update

The U.S. is reportedly demanding that Israel take physical and financial responsibility for removing the debris caused by the war in Gaza, which is expected to cost hundreds of millions of shekels. Israel has agreed in principle. The first area to be cleared will most likely be the Rafah area, where rebuilding would then begin.

Believe it or not, Amnesty International published a report this week saying that Hamas committed crimes against humanity during its attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 and against hostages it took to Gaza. Its investigation found that the crimes against humanity included murder, extermination, imprisonment, torture, rape and other forms of sexual abuse and inhumane acts. Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the report did not cover the full extent of what it called “Hamas’ horrific atrocities”. Of course Hamas denied all the allegations. In this world of anti-Israel hatred and pro-Palestinian euphoria, we’ll take this report by the premier international “human rights” watchdog as a victory. Truth still does exist in this world, although it’s getting harder and harder to come by.

A video of 6 hostages lighting the Hanukkah candles during their captivity in Rafah was released. The video, captured by IDF forces during the war, was filmed by Hamas as part of their psychological warfare campaign. The 6 hostages – Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Alex Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Carmel Gat – were all murdered by Hamas in the tunnel, after being tortured and starved for months. To watch the video, click here.

The holiday of Hanukkah begins on Sunday night. The holiday represents the willingness of the Jewish People, and all good people regardless of their religion, to fight for the freedom to live according to their beliefs. It is also a time of miracles, the kind that we can all recognize and the kind that we pass off as coincidence or luck. The video of the hostages lighting the candles in the darkest place imaginable reflects both the struggle for freedom and the belief in miraculous salvation. The last 2 years of wars against our enemies does the same. After it all, we can light our Hanukkah lights in freedom, strengthened in our faith that truth and justice will continue to triumph over lies and terror.

Happy Hanukkah!

News Update

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said on Sunday, during a tour of areas in northern Gaza, that the ‘Yellow Line’ that divides the Gaza Strip into territory controlled by Hamas and territory controlled by Israel “is a new border line, serving as a forward defensive line for our communities and a line of operational activity.” He added, “We will not allow Hamas to reestablish itself. We are operating to thwart and remove threats in all arenas. We will not tolerate threats against our troops, and we will respond to any attempt. We have freedom of operation – both here in the Southern Command and across all arenas.”

The second phase of the 20 point Trump plan calls for the disarmament of Hamas, which doesn’t seem very likely, at least for now. Turkey and Qatar are reportedly working on ways to allow Hamas to maintain their influence in Gaza by allowing them to either give up their weapons to the Palestinian Authority or to store them in a secure area in Gaza. Israeli officials believe that this issue will be the main topic of discussion when Prime Minister Netanyahu meets with President Trump in Maro Lago between December 28 and January 1. For more, click here.

Meanwhile, Hamas has reasserted its control over their part of Gaza, with armed terrorists patrolling the streets and arresting and executing rivals. Hamas is estimated to have 20,000 terrorist soldiers and has replaced commanders killed during the war. Around half of their tunnel network is still in tact and they still possess significant amounts of automatic rifles, RPG launchers and mortars. However, local clans and armed groups are fighting Hamas. For more, click here.

Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Al‑Thani declared Sunday that Qatar will not fund reconstruction of Gaza, saying: “We will not rebuild what Israel destroyed.” He said, “When we say Israel must rebuild they tell us ‘you as a region share the responsibility.’ We will not abandon the Palestinians, but we will not sign the checks to rebuild what someone else destroyed.” He also denied that Qatar funds Hamas.

Israel has begun construction of a new security barrier along its border with Jordan. Estimated at NIS 5.5 billion, the barrier will include a physical fence, advanced sensor arrays, radars, cameras, and IT systems-forming a “smart” border designed to meet current and future security needs.
