The U.S. is reportedly demanding that Israel take physical and financial responsibility for removing the debris caused by the war in Gaza, which is expected to cost hundreds of millions of shekels. Israel has agreed in principle. The first area to be cleared will most likely be the Rafah area, where rebuilding would then begin.
Believe it or not, Amnesty International published a report this week saying that Hamas committed crimes against humanity during its attack on southern Israel on October 7, 2023 and against hostages it took to Gaza. Its investigation found that the crimes against humanity included murder, extermination, imprisonment, torture, rape and other forms of sexual abuse and inhumane acts. Israel’s Foreign Ministry said the report did not cover the full extent of what it called “Hamas’ horrific atrocities”. Of course Hamas denied all the allegations. In this world of anti-Israel hatred and pro-Palestinian euphoria, we’ll take this report by the premier international “human rights” watchdog as a victory. Truth still does exist in this world, although it’s getting harder and harder to come by.
A video of 6 hostages lighting the Hanukkah candles during their captivity in Rafah was released. The video, captured by IDF forces during the war, was filmed by Hamas as part of their psychological warfare campaign. The 6 hostages – Hersh Goldberg-Polin, Eden Yerushalmi, Ori Danino, Alex Lobanov, Almog Sarusi and Carmel Gat – were all murdered by Hamas in the tunnel, after being tortured and starved for months. The holiday of Hanukkah begins on Sunday night. The holiday represents the willingness of the Jewish People, and all good people regardless of their religion, to fight for the freedom to live according to their beliefs. It is also a time of miracles, the kind that we can all recognize and the kind that we pass off as coincidence or luck. The video of the hostages lighting the candles in the darkest place imaginable reflects both the struggle for freedom and the belief in miraculous salvation. The last 2 years of wars against our enemies does the same. After it all, we can light our Hanukkah lights in freedom, strengthened in our faith that truth and justice will continue to triumph over lies and terror.
Happy Hanukkah!

IDF Chief of Staff Lt. Gen. Eyal Zamir said on Sunday, during a tour of areas in northern Gaza, that the ‘Yellow Line’ that divides the Gaza Strip into territory controlled by Hamas and territory controlled by Israel “is a new border line, serving as a forward defensive line for our communities and a line of operational activity.” He added, “We will not allow Hamas to reestablish itself. We are operating to thwart and remove threats in all arenas. We will not tolerate threats against our troops, and we will respond to any attempt. We have freedom of operation – both here in the Southern Command and across all arenas.”
The second phase of the 20 point Trump plan calls for the disarmament of Hamas, which doesn’t seem very likely, at least for now. Turkey and Qatar are reportedly working on ways to allow Hamas to maintain their influence in Gaza by allowing them to either give up their weapons to the Palestinian Authority or to store them in a secure area in Gaza. Israeli officials believe that this issue will be the main topic of discussion when Prime Minister Netanyahu meets with President Trump in Maro Lago between December 28 and January 1. Meanwhile, Hamas has reasserted its control over their part of Gaza, with armed terrorists patrolling the streets and arresting and executing rivals. Hamas is estimated to have 20,000 terrorist soldiers and has replaced commanders killed during the war. Around half of their tunnel network is still in tact and they still possess significant amounts of automatic rifles, RPG launchers and mortars. However, local clans and armed groups are fighting Hamas. For more, click here.
Qatari Prime Minister and Foreign Minister Mohammed Al‑Thani declared Sunday that Qatar will not fund reconstruction of Gaza, saying: “We will not rebuild what Israel destroyed.” He said, “When we say Israel must rebuild they tell us ‘you as a region share the responsibility.’ We will not abandon the Palestinians, but we will not sign the checks to rebuild what someone else destroyed.” He also denied that Qatar funds Hamas.
Israel has begun construction of a new security barrier along its border with Jordan. Estimated at NIS 5.5 billion, the barrier will include a physical fence, advanced sensor arrays, radars, cameras, and IT systems-forming a “smart” border designed to meet current and future security needs.

Yasser Abu Shabab, the militia leader who oversaw eastern Rafah and had been cooperating with Israel in recent months, was killed today. Abu Shabab was reportedly killed in an internal dispute between rival families, and not by Hamas.

Israel will open the Rafah crossing for Gazans to exit into Egypt in the coming days. According to a statement: “The departure of residents through the Rafah crossing will be possible in coordination with Egypt, after security approval by Israel and under the supervision of the European Union delegation, similar to the mechanism employed in January 2025.” Entry of residents from Egypt into Gaza will not be permitted at this stage. The opening of the crossing is part of President Trump’s 20-point plan.
According to a post on X from the Prime Minister’s Office: “Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu has instructed the Acting Director of the National Security Council to send a representative on his behalf to a meeting with government-economic elements in Lebanon. This is an initial attempt to establish a basis for a relationship and economic cooperation between Israel and Lebanon.”
Israel’s Arrow 3 ballistic missile defense system will become operational in Germany today. Germany spend 3.5 billion Euros on the system. Prime Minister Netanyahu has formally requested a pardon from President Herzog. Netanyahu did not admit any guilt, but rather cited the “increasing burden” of his role in the trial proceedings, which preclude him from focusing fully on his duties as prime minister, as the main reason for his request. He also cites his lifelong public service to the state and his leadership in defeating Hamas, Hezbollah and Iran and in bringing home the hostages. He said the emerging understandings between the United States, Israel, Arab states and other countries “require significant preparation, intensive diplomatic and security efforts and constant attention” and that “there is a compelling public interest in allowing the prime minister to dedicate his full time and energy to these weighty responsibilities.” He added that a pardon was vital for “national unity and healing”.
President Herzog responded that he would carefully consider the request. It is assumed that there will be some form of negotiation between the president, prime minister, justice minister, attorney general and supreme court justices. To read more, click here.

President Trump met with Saudi Crown Prince Mohammed bin Salman (MBS) at the White House yesterday where he said that the Saudis would get F-35 jets and that Israel would be very happy about it, implying that the Saudis would normalize relations with Israel. MBS was open to the idea, but insisted on tying it to Palestinian statehood, or at least a path to it. I think Israel is fine with a “path”, which would require many things to go right before becoming a reality. Israel commentators are saying that it is unlikely that MBS would normalize relations ahead of Israeli elections (in a year) because that would help Netanyahu and Likud. Netanyahu would most likely not accept any “path” to Palestinian statehood ahead of elections either, because it would hurt him with his electorate.
An IDF drone strike targeted a Hamas training camp near Sidon in southern Lebanon yesterday. 13 terrorists were reportedly killed. On Sunday a drone strike targeted a car carrying 2 Hezbollah commanders, killing at least one of them. The IDF is currently striking Hezbollah targets in Lebanon.
